The first half of this show takes in some celebrated and obscure pop singles from late 70’s and early 80’s English bands like Joy Division, Felt, The Wake and The Durutti Column – some of which feature the production genius of Martin Hannett. The second half hour is mainly filled with hits from the songwriting duo Dan Penn & Spooner Oldham, their main contribution to Soul/pop music was during the mid to late 60’s, they wrote hits for the likes of Aretha, Dionne Warwick, The Box Tops and many more. I have also included some Gospel and Southern Soul tracks which I think compliments and reflects their songwriting style.

A recent show I did – an hour of music that takes in various styles but has a good progression to it and knits together quite well I think. Have a listen and let me know what you think.
